Sydney Winter Festival 2014

It is already the time of the year in Sydney where the temperature begins to drop and the layers of clothes wrapped around us increase.
For the first time in Sydney, a Winter Festival was held at Darling Habour accommodating us with an Ice Rink, fireworks, winter displays, performances and many more.

I went to this very hyped festival with my friends on Saturday, only to come home with disappointments.

(First winter display you will encounter if you enter from the bridge next to Chinatown)

However, if i had to choose, this winter display was the most impressive experience of the night. It was a rectangular shaped structure dressed with white decorations such as white lit trees and "upside down white Christmas trees" on the ceiling to mimic the icy feeling of winter. It looked quite beautiful from the outside as seen in the photo above and was also quite a beautiful scene as you walk in through the entrance. The ceiling and walls of the structure was made of diamond-cut shaped cotton fabric which mimicked pretty nicely the walls of "snowy igloos".

(The very interesting looking snack)
To the left of the first winter display was the main event consisting of the "not so big" ice rink, food stalls and other fun activities. Of course a food lover such as myself could not miss out eating what was provided at the stalls. I have seen many of my friends bombarding my Instagram with pictures of these "sliced potato chip lookalike on a stick" and as I drool wanting to take a bite. This day came on that Saturday night as one of the stalls sold these delicious and Instagram worthy snacks. It had quite an interesting taste, not as tasty to my expectations but... oily...very oily ...and deep fried.. yes what usual deep fried food would taste like. Anyhow, it smelled amazing.

Other stores sold other types of snacks such as German sausages, if only I didn't have dinner beforehand I would've tried out everything that was sold there. That really ended my night since we didn't plan to ice skate (which we were very glad that we did not since it was ...really small.. and didn't look very easy to skate on) and there was not much to see at the festival. Unfortunately, i was too concentrated on the food and wasn't able to take more photos of the festival.

Until next time
